World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst believes that Jamie Vardy could be a "star" at this summer's Euro 2016 finals in France.

Sir Geoff Hurst has claimed that Jamie Vardy could be a possible "star" of Euro 2016 this summer.

Vardy has helped fire Leicester City to the top of the Premier League this season and announced himself on the international stage last night with a flicked finish that drew England level with Germany, his first goal for his country.

The Three Lions then went on to complete an unlikely comeback in injury time against the world champions after being 2-0 down on the hour mark in Berlin.

Hurst, who famously scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final win over West Germany in 1966, believes that 29-year-old Vardy could make a big impact in France this summer.

"If I had to pick someone to be a star of the tournament I'd pick Vardy," Hurst told the BBC's Sportsweek.

"He's a bit like the Geoff Hurst, come from nowhere, looking at his background and performing like he's performing.

"He's a very level-headed guy and I like the way he plays. I think he's very sensible, very intelligent and playing for a smaller club that would be fantastic. He deserves every chance he gets."

Vardy has 19 Premier League goals this season, two behind England teammate Harry Kane at the top of the scoring charts.
