Burnley manager Sean Dyche is happy with the way his side grew into the match against Watford, and insists that the visitors definitely deserved to have a man dismissed.

Sean Dyche has declared himself "really pleased" with Burnley's showing to overcome fellow high-flyers Watford 1-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Scott Arfield's first-half goal proved the difference between the two sides, lifting the Clarets to within one point of a Champions League spot in a season to remember.

There was to be a few contentious moments, though, as Watford left-back Marvin Zeegelaar was shown a straight red card shortly before Arfield's strike, while referee Lee Probert also turned down a couple of penalty appeals for the visitors.

Dyche insists that there can be few complaints over the sending-off, telling BBC Sport: "It was definitely a red card - I thought so at the time, I've seen it afterwards and it's a poor challenge. But it's strange when the opposition go a man down because you're then in a fight where everyone expects you to win. But overall this is another big three points for us.

"I'm really pleased with the result. Watford had a very strong start to the season and we knew they're a strong side. We started slowly but overall delivered a strong performance.

"The marvel of our squad is that we have players who can come into the team out of the blue and deliver great performances. I'm super-pleased for the team because it's not easy to win in the Premier League and this is another win."

Arfield's goal was just the ninth to be scored in eight Premier League games at Turf Moor this term - fewer than any other ground.
