Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is reportedly expected to shake hands on a £300m takeover offer tabled by Amanda Staveley - £50m more than her initial bid.

Mike Ashley is on the verge of finalising a deal with Amanda Staveley for a complete takeover of Newcastle United, according to a report.

Staveley's PCP Capital Partners group has emerged as the only serious bidder for the Magpies since owner Ashley officially put the club up for sale on October 16.

The two parties held face-to-face talks at a London curry house last week and, after initially being wide apart in their valuation of the North-East outfit, a common ground is understood to have been found.

Sky Sports News reports that an increased offer of £300m has now been tabled by Staveley - around £50m more than initially submitted a month ago - though nothing has yet been agreed.

Even if Ashley and Staveley shake hands on the £300m offer, the takeover is unlikely to be completed until after the January transfer window as no paperwork has yet been submitted to the Premier League.
