Burnley manager Sean Dyche says that Ashley Barnes remains out of first-team contention with a "niggling injury".

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has said that Ashley Barnes is nearing a return from injury but will not feature against Leicester City this weekend.

Barnes spent the majority of last season on the sidelines but after returning to help the Clarets to promotion, he sustained a hamstring problem during pre-season.

Dyche is hopeful that the 26-year-old will return before the end of the month but he has been ruled out of contention ahead of the game with the Premier League champions.

The 45-year-old told reporters: "Barnsey's still got a niggling injury. It's the final stages but just getting rid of the final moment of pain.

"He's out of the grass doing some work, he just can't clear it up, it's getting closer, we hope."

Burnley currently sit in 15th position in the standings.
