Bournemouth confirm that they have completed the signing of Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi for an undisclosed fee.

Bournemouth have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi.

In comparison to fellow newly-promoted clubs Fulham and Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth have endured a quiet summer ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

However, over the weekend, it was confirmed that Barcelona goalkeeper Neto was the latest player to move to the Vitality Stadium on a free transfer.

Nevertheless, Scott Parker has been known to be in the market for a new centre-back due to the departures of Gary Cahill and Liverpool loanee Nat Phillips.

That has led to the acquisition of Senesi, who has arrived on the South coast for an undisclosed fee.

The Argentine has spent the last three years at Feyenoord, helping the Dutch outfit reach the final of last season's Europa Conference League.

The 25-year-old's recent development has led to him earning recognition with his country, his international debut coming in June.

In total, Senesi made a total of 116 appearances for Feyenoord and he arrives at Bournemouth looking to cement a place in the starting lineup.

Chief executive Neill Blake said: "This is a huge signing for us and Marcos brings significant pedigree to our squad. There was, inevitably, a lot of interest in him so for him to choose to come here is a clear sign of our appeal as a football club.

"Bringing in a current Argentina international with experience in European competitions is another indication of the club's ambition and we are all looking forward to seeing Marcos in an AFC Bournemouth shirt."

Senesi will come into contention for Bournemouth's next fixture in the Premier League, a daunting trip to champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Parker must decide whether to split up the three-man backline which helped Bournemouth record a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the opening day of the season.

That saw Jefferson Lerma line up on the right-hand side, dropping deeper than his recognised central-midfield role, with Chris Mepham and Lloyd Kelly being used in the other two positions.
