Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe insists that his side have the quality to win the first major trophy in the club's history ahead of their EFL Cup clash with MK Dons.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has insisted that his side have the ability to win silverware this season.

The Cherries will get their EFL Cup campaign underway against League Two MK Dons on Tuesday evening, having reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season.

Bournemouth have also made a positive start to their Premier League campaign, with seven points from their opening three games, and Howe has urged his side to go into the cup tournaments believing that they could go all the way.

"It goes without saying, we'd love to be able to do that. And my message to the players will always be: 'Why not?'," he told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

"I think we can do it, I think we've got the squad depth to achieve something like that. We should definitely go in with the mindset that we want to perform well, try and progress and then see where it takes us."

Bournemouth have never won a major piece of silverware before, with their most notable trophy coming in 2014-15 when they won the Championship title.
