Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that winning a trophy is the priority for the club during the 2016-17 campaign.

The Gunners have won just two FA Cups in the past 11 years, but recorded their best Premier League finish in more than a decade by finishing second behind surprise champions Leicester City last season.

Cech is hopeful of going one better next term, but admits that there will be fierce competition with a number of clubs splashing the cash this summer.

"We were disappointed because we thought we were good enough to challenge for the title and to be in the race until the last game," Cech told Sky Sports News.

"But we finished second which was the best finish for Arsenal in a long time, so there were positives in our last campaign and we would like to carry that on, to improve for the next season because we finished empty-handed and this is not what we wanted.

"For the next season the aim is to add some silverware into the cabinet, but we expect a big challenge as well. So many teams are buying players and improving, everybody wants to be in the top four, and will be challenging for the title."

Arsenal will begin their campaign at home to Liverpool on Sunday, August 14.
