Gareth Bale says that Wales, who face Northern Ireland in the last 16 of Euro 2016, have a burning ambition and desire to win the tournament outright.

Wales forward Gareth Bale has claimed that his team is not happy with just taking part at Euro 2016, and wants to be lifting the trophy come the end of the tournament.

The Dragons qualified from Group B in first place after victories over Russia and Slovakia, and will face Northern Ireland in the last 16 on Saturday.

Bale told BBC Sport on Thursday: "Obviously you come to the tournament for one reason. To win. Not to play three games and go home. The ultimate goal is we want to try and win the tournament.

"It's a cliche but we'll take each one as it comes. Yes we would love to win it, but all our focus now is on Northern Ireland."

The eight teams on Wales's side of the draw have no major international honours between them, whereas the other side - featuring Spain, Germany, Italy, France and England - boasts 20 titles.
