A report claims that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena in a £2.6m deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly attempting to sign Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena in a £2.6m deal.

Alena, 19, came through the youth system at Camp Nou, and made four first-team appearances for Barca last season.

The Spain Under-19 international is highly-rated at the Catalan side, but the midfielder only has one year left on his current deal, and according to AS, Tottenham are trying to sign Alena for a cut-price fee.

It is understood that Alena's release clause will rise from £2.6m to £10.5m on July 1, leaving Spurs in a race against the clock in order to bring the teenager to England before the end of the month.

Alena has scored four times in 38 appearances for Barcelona B over the last two seasons.
