Tottenham Hotspur see off AC Milan in Munich

Spurs secure a third-place finish at the Audi Cup in Munich thanks to a 2-0 triumph over AC Milan.

Tottenham Hotspur have claimed a third-place finish at the Audi Cup by beating AC Milan 2-0 in Munich.

It took Spurs just eight minutes to find a breakthrough, with Nacer Chadli cutting in from the right before finding the net with a 25-yard drive.

Milan responded well to going behind, but Alessandro Matri could not get them level when two chances fell his way. The first saw the striker head wide, while the second saw his attempted lob go over.

Luke McGee was kept busy in the Tottenham goal for the remainder of the first half as Matri and Suso both forced saves from the youngster. However, Milan were unable to find an equaliser.

With both teams going on the attack after the break, it was Spurs who scored a decisive second goal on 71 minutes when Tom Carroll was set up by Kieran Trippier before applying a deft finish.

Milan had the opportunity to pull a goal back late on, but Rodrigo Ely's stinging volley was gathered by substitute Hugo Lloris.
