Reading will reportedly announce the appointment of Jaap Stam as the club's new head coach this afternoon.

The Championship club have called a press conference at 2.30pm today at the Madejski Stadium, where chief executive Nigel Howe is expected to be present.

According to reports, Stam will be officially unveiled by the Royals today, succeeding Brian McDermott, whose second spell in charge of the club ended after just six months.

Stam, who won six trophies in three years while playing at Manchester United, will become Reading's first non-British manager.

The 43-year-old, who is currently part of Ajax's backroom team, will take charge of a club that finished 17th in the Championship last season.
