Result: Poland edge past Ukraine to finish second in Group C

Jakub Blaszczykowski's second-half strike helps Poland clinch a narrow 1-0 win over Ukraine in Tuesday's Euro 2016 Group C game in Marseille to finish second ahead of Northern Ireland.

Jakub Blaszczykowski's second-half strike has given Poland a narrow 1-0 win over Ukraine in Tuesday's Euro 2016 Group C game in Marseille.

Adam Nawalka's charges were quickest off the starting blocks as Arkadiusz Milik found space inside the Ukraine box twice in the first 10 minutes, but was not able to test Andriy Pyatov.

The pendulum then swung the way of Mykhaylo Fomenko's men, with Roman Zozulya forcing a block from the Poland defence and Andriy Yarmolenko wasting a big opportunity by firing narrowly wide of the left post.

On the half-hour mark, Evgen Konoplyanka was next to threaten Lukasz Fabianski's goal, but his long-range effort whizzed just wide, while just after the break, Oleksandr Zinchenko thumped a bullet header just over.

Ukraine would come to rue those missed chances as, shortly before the hour mark, Milik picked out Blaszczykowski, who showed brilliant composure inside the box to bury the ball inside the left post.

Robert Lewandowski and Milik wasted further chances to put the game beyond Ukraine's reach, while the Yellow-Blue also threatened via Artem Fedetskiy and Ruslan Rotan.

Ultimately, the final whistle blew on a narrow win for Poland, who claimed second spot in Group C ahead of Northern Ireland, while Ukraine go home without a single point to their name.
