League One promotion hopefuls Millwall hand a new contract to young defender Mahlon Romeo that runs until June 2019.

Millwall have announced that defender Mahlon Romeo has signed a new contract with the club.

The right-back joined the League One side last summer following a stint with Gillingham.

However, having made nine appearances since then, the 20-year-old has earned himself fresh terms that have tied him to The Den until June 2019.

"Naturally I'm very pleased to secure my future at the club which has given me my chance in senior football," he told the club's official website.

"I'd like to thank the manager and his coaching staff for showing faith in me ever since I moved to Millwall last summer.

"It's been brilliant to be a part of the first-team setup in recent months. There is a great group of lads here and I'm really excited about the rest of this season and the long-term future."

Romeo started his career as a trainee with Premier League outfit Arsenal.
