Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka admits that his side must learn quickly from their mistakes following a 2-1 defeat to visitors Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has called on his side to learn from their mistakes after losing 2-1 against Crystal Palace in the Premier League this afternoon.

The newly-promoted side had managed to get back on level terms through Daniel Ayala following an opener from Christian Benteke, but a mistake from George Friend allowed Wilfried Zaha to seal three away points for Alan Pardew's side.

"If we don't play with our intensity and style, which we didn't in the first 45 minutes, it is the Premier League and we are going to pay," Karanka told reporters after the game.

"We had a lot of chances in the second half and if we had played the same way in the first half we would have won the game.

"When you lose a game through mistakes it is difficult, but we have to think about the future and learn. We have lost the game, but we can't forget we are in a good position."

Middlesbrough have so far claimed five points from their opening four games of the season.
