Sunderland manager David Moyes gives an honest reflection of his side's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that the Black Cats were left "hanging in there".

David Moyes has admitted that Sunderland found life "tough" at White Hart Lane as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Black Cats were only kept in the game by Jordan Pickford, who produced a number of key stops to give his side an outside chance of nicking a point.

In the end Harry Kane's strike on the hour mark proved the difference between the two teams in North London, coming after a mistake by Papy Djilobodji in a game that Moyes concedes his men were always second best in.

"We were in the game, but we have to be truthful - it was tough," he is quoted as saying by Chronicle Live. "Things were whizzing past the post and we were hanging in there.

"But credit to the players, that's where we are at the moment. We are having to be resilient, hang in games and look to get things. I think it would be a big surprise if I came in and said that getting points here was easy.

"We came here trying to get something, but we were always on the back foot right from the start - although we may have had the best chance of the game through Steven Pienaar."

Sunderland, with just one point to their name all season, are only kept off the bottom of the Premier League table by virtue of a superior goal difference over Stoke City.
