Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to focus on signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane instead of Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly urged Manchester United to focus on signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane instead of Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Widespread reports have claimed that the four-time Ballon d'Or winner is keen to leave Spain due to accusations that he has avoided paying tax between 2011 and 2014.

Speculation is also rife that the Portugal international could return to Manchester United, where he spent six years before leaving in a then-world record £80m deal to Madrid in 2009.

However, a report in The Mirror suggests that Mourinho is not concerned about the club re-signing his compatriot, but instead wants resources committed to bringing Kane to Old Trafford.

The report goes on to say that Mourinho wants Ronaldo's club teammate Alvaro Morata to be recruited as well, envisioning a Red Devils strikeforce of the Spain international and the England marksman.

Ronaldo has scored 406 times in 394 appearances for Los Blancos, while Kane has bagged 99 goals in 165 games for Spurs.
