Manchester United could move for Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen during this summer's transfer window, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

The Red Devils are expected to soon announce a new contract for David de Gea, with the Spaniard's existing terms due to expire at the end of next month.

The 32-year-old made another high-profile mistake against West Ham United last weekend, allowing a strike from Said Benrahma to squirm past him, with the Hammers ultimately winning the match 1-0.

De Gea was backed by Man United head coach Erik ten Hag after the match, though, and he is set to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, albeit on reduced terms.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the Spaniard's position as number one on a long-term basis is far from secure, and Verbruggen is being closely watched by the club.

The 20-year-old has made 31 appearances for his Belgian club in total, keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

The Dutchman still has another two years left to run on his current deal, but there have been suggestions that he could be allowed to leave for the right price this summer.

The stopper started his professional career with NAC Breda before moving to Anderlecht in 2020, and he was a part of the senior Netherlands squad for their Euro 2024 qualification matches against France and Gibraltar in March.

There are expected to be big changes in the Man United goalkeeping department this summer, as current number two Tom Heaton only has a deal until the end of the season.

Jack Butland, meanwhile, is only on loan at Old Trafford from Crystal Palace, and the Englishman is unlikely to be signed on a permanent basis.

Dean Henderson is set to return to Old Trafford this summer following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but the England international is not thought to be in the long-term plans of Ten Hag.

Despite some high-profile mistakes during the 2022-23 campaign, De Gea has the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season, shutting out the opposition on 15 occasions.

In total, the Spaniard has represented the 20-time English champions 53 times this term, keeping 23 clean sheets in the process.

Man United will be bidding to bounce back from successive defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham when they continue their Premier League campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
