Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount hails the impact that Thiago Silva has had on the team and what he has learned from the veteran defender since his arrival.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has lavished praise on defender Thiago Silva and claimed that he has already learned a lot from the Brazilian since his arrival.

Silva made the switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer after running down his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, and the 36-year-old has quickly become a nailed-on starter under Frank Lampard.

The former PSG captain has been an integral part of the Blues' strong start to the season, and Mount - who has impressed himself - has spoken highly of Silva and how much his arrival has benefited the younger players.

Speaking at Chelsea's pre-match press conference for their Champions League showdown with Rennes, Mount said: "Yeah, we all learn stuff off each other.

"When you have players like Kai and Timo coming in, and Thiago Silva who has been through a lot and been at the top of the game for a long time, you can learn so much experience from them by just talking to him for five minutes here and there.

"He is a brilliant player and when they come in it really helps young players coming through and gives us a lot of experience."

Chelsea are enjoying a terrific spell of form at the moment with five wins on the trot, and the Blues can guarantee qualification for the Champions League knockout stages this week when they lock horns with Rennes at Roazhon Park.
