Sean Dyche believes that Burnley's Europa League adventure, which came to an end against Olympiacos on Thursday night, will serve as an important lesson for the club.

Sean Dyche has claimed that Burnley's Europa League adventure will serve as an important lesson for the club.

The Clarets finished seventh in the Premier League table last season to put them in European competition for the first time in 51 years.

Burnley hit the ground running as they overcame Scottish side Aberdeen in the second qualifying round before Istanbul Basaksehir were seen off to seal a playoff tie with Olympiacos.

Unfortunately for the Lancastrians, the Greek giants ran out 3-1 winners in the first leg in Piraeus before securing a group stage berth at Burnley's expense with a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

"I thought we dominated the game and dominated chances," Dyche told BT Sport. "The biggest bug bear is you've got to take your chances. We created enough chances.

"I wanted our team to get back to their identify and I feel that clearly happened today. No disappointments, just learning. We were effective.

"I thought we had so many chances, it could easily have gone our way. I think the whole club will learn from this. It bodes well for the future but we've got to use it wisely."

Burnley will now seek to address their Premier League woes, a competition in which they remain winless going into Sunday's home game with Manchester United.
