Birmingham City are reportedly ready to spend big on Barnsley defender Marc Roberts as Harry Redknapp looks to strengthen his squad at St Andrew's.

Barnsley defender Marc Roberts has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Birmingham City.

Harry Redknapp had been keen on completing a deal for Chelsea legend John Terry, but with city rivals Aston Villa favourites to sign the veteran centre-back, Redknapp has been forced to look elsewhere.

According to The Sun, that has resulted in an approach being made for Roberts, who impressed in the Tykes' first year back in the Championship.

It had been suggested that Burnley were ready to sign Roberts as a potential replacement for Michael Keane, who is expected to join Everton, but it appears that Birmingham are favourites to agree terms with the 26-year-old.

Roberts made 40 league appearances last season as Barnsley finished in 14th position in the standings.
