Southampton reportedly decide to accept a bid from Barnsley for defender Jason McCarthy.

Barnsley have reportedly agreed a fee with Southampton for defender Jason McCarthy.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at St Mary's but with it appearing unlikely that he will become a regular at the Premier League side, it is understood that he will be sold during the summer.

According to The Sun, Barnsley are prepared to pay £200,000 in order to take McCarthy to Oakwell ahead of the start of next season.

McCarthy has spent the past two years on loan at Football League clubs, with a stay at Wycombe Wanderers being followed by a season at Walsall, where he played every game of their 2016-17 League One campaign.

His only top-flight outing for Southampton came in December 2014, where he came on as an 87th-minute substitute during a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace.
