Thomas Muller: 'Philipp Lahm in mix for Bayern Munich job'

Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller claims that Philipp Lahm would be welcomed back to the Allianz Arena with open arms.

Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller has said that Philipp Lahm would be welcomed back to the Allianz Arena in a coaching capacity with open arms.

Bayern are currently being led by Jupp Heynckes - who replaced Carlo Ancelotti in October - but the 72-year-old is expected to stand down at the end of the current season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is currently being linked with the position, but Muller has claimed that former Bayern captain Lahm should be in the mix as he has "the necessary experience".

"Philipp is always someone who will be in the debate with FC Bayern, if somewhere a position is [available]," he told Sky Germany. "He has lived the FC Bayern [way] and is someone who thinks outside the box.

"He has the necessary experience, knows the club inside out and of course already [offers] a lot. Otherwise he would not have been a candidate for the sports director post last summer."

Lahm, 34, made over 500 appearances for Bayern, winning eight Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and one Champions League during his time with the German giants before retiring from football last summer.
