Tottenham Hotspur announce record revenue for 2016-17 season

Tottenham Hotspur announce record revenue for their final season at the old White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced record revenues of £306.3m for the 2016-17 season.

The year-on-year upturn of almost £100m was attributed to the club securing Champions League football, as well as increases in television, sponsorship and corporate hospitality and merchandising income.

The club also announced profits of £41.2m, up from £33m in 2015-16, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

Tottenham's exploits in Europe last season, which saw them bow out of the Champions League at the group stage before losing to Gent in the Europa League, helped them rake in gate receipts and prize money of £44.6m with the help of home fixtures staged at Wembley Stadium.

Premier League gate receipts, however, were down that season due to the redevelopment of White Hart Lane, a project which also saw the club's construction costs rise.

"Extraordinary levels of financial and human resource have seen significant progress on capital projects, with schemes underway at both the new stadium site and our Training Centre," the Daily Mail quotes Spurs chairman Daniel Levy as saying.

"As custodians of the club we are ever-conscious of the need to ensure the future stability of the Club whilst managing its growth."

White Hart Lane is currently being redeveloped into a 61,559-capacity stadium.
