Result: England come from behind to win bronze at Commonwealth Games

England score 21 unanswered points in the second half to come from behind and beat South Africa in the bronze-medal match at the Commonwealth Games.

England have launched a stunning second-half fightback to beat South Africa 21-14 in the bronze-medal match at the Commonwealth Games.

South Africa led 14-0 at half time as they looked on course to take the final medal spot on the podium, but England - knocked out in the quarter-finals in Glasgow four years ago - scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to rescue victory from the jaws of defeat.

Tries from Branco Du Preez and Ruhan Nel had put South Africa in control of the tie at the halfway stage, with England failing to mount any serious threat to the opposition line.

That changed in the second half, though, with Phil Burgess opening his side's account just 37 seconds after the interval to kickstart the comeback.

Burgess also scored the try which, coupled with a conversion from Tom Mitchell, levelled the scores before Mitchell himself looped around the entire South African defence to touch down the winning try.

England bided their time in the closing stages before kicking the ball out of play on the buzzer, equalling the achievement of their women's team by winning bronze.
