The PGA of America will announce Davis Love III as the 2016 Ryder Cup captain, according to reports.

American golfer Davis Love III is set to be announced as the 2016 United States Ryder Cup captain tonight, according to reports.

The PGA of America has confirmed that a press conference will take place tonight to announce Tom Watson's successor, and Love is the overwhelming favourite to take on the role for a second time according to Sky Sports News.

The 50-year-old thought he was guiding Team USA to Ryder Cup success in 2012, but an almighty fightback on the final day by Team Europe dashed their hopes.

Despite that narrow defeat, Love was widely praised as a captain and will hope to exact revenge at Hazeltine next year.

Love played in the competition six times as player, with his last appearance coming in 2004.
