Ian Poulter congratulates Darren Clarke over Ryder Cup captaincy

Ian Poulter believes that Darren Clarke will be a 'first-class captain' for Europe at the 2016 Ryder Cup captain.

Ian Poulter has congratulated Darren Clarke following the Irishman's appointment as Europe's 2016 Ryder Cup captain.

The 46-year-old was chosen to skipper the team in Hazeltine by a five-man panel on Wednesday.

Clarke saw off competition from Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn to land the esteemed role.

Poulter, who has played in five Ryder Cups for Europe, believes that Clarke will be a successful captain when the team defends its title next year.


Davis Love III is expected to be named the USA's captain for next year's tournament.
