Davis Love III admits that he is still hopeful Tiger Woods can force his way into the Ryder Cup team.

Davis Love III has revealed that he hopes Tiger Woods can force his way into the US team for next year's Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

The former world number one has slipped down to 172nd in the rankings after finishing last at the Memorial Tournament with a 13-over 85 to his name in the third round.

However, Love claims that Woods is desperate to regain his best form and he believes that the 14-time Major winner can still earn a spot in his side.

"He's positive – he's making progress. That's what I like to hear from him. He's not frustrated other than he's not coming [good] as quickly as he wants," the US captain told Sky Sports News.

"He wants to and I want him to as well. He sent me an idea the other day about the Ryder Cup. He is focused on the Ryder Cup – and he's focused on making Jay Haas' Presidents Cup team. He wants to get his game back."

Woods has not finished in the top 10 of a PGA Tour event since The Barclays in August 2013.
