Fifty-year-old Davis Love III will reportedly be named as 2016 USA Ryder Cup captain.

Davis Love III will be announced as USA's Ryder Cup captain next week, according to reports.

The 50-year-old was in charge as his side lost to Team Europe at Medinah in 2012, although they led 10-6 after two days.

Europe eventually won by a slender 1.5 point margin, and Love will have a chance to redeem himself next year, according to Golf Channel

The report says that Love remains in favour with the majority of players, and he seems to have beaten off competition from Fred Couples and Paul Azinger.

The 2016 match will take place at Hazeltine National Golf Club, Minnesota.
