Sheffield United make an approach for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell, who impressed on loan at the Blades last season.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has revealed that he is trying to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell.

Last season, he made 34 appearances during a loan spell at Bramall Lane as the club won promotion to League One, but he was persuaded into signing a new long-term deal with Wolves.

However, the departure of Paul Lambert and the subsequent arrival of three new defenders is likely to leave Ebanks-Landell available for transfer, and Wilder has admitted that he has already been in contact with Wolves.

The 49-year-old is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "We've made an enquiry. We've asked the question. Like anything else, they are waiting to see so it's not guaranteed or concrete that he actually is available. But they've brought a couple of centre-halves in. It's an ongoing thing.

"They've had a change of manager and brought a couple of players in. Centre-half is a big position for us.

"We've made contact with Wolves. Numbers get banded around at this stage but it's when players come back for training proper when I think things start to happen."

Wilder is likely to sign a new contract with the Blades in the coming days, despite reported interested from Sunderland.
