Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly close to signing George Boyd, who is available on a free transfer after deciding to leave Burnley.

Attacker George Boyd has reportedly moved to the brink of signing a deal with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 31-year-old has spent the last three seasons at a first-team regular at Turf Moor, but he opted against signing an extension to his deal with the Clarets.

Aston Villa were said to be interested in his signature but according to Sky Sports News, he is closing in on a transfer to Hillsborough.

It has been claimed that Boyd will undergo a medical with the Yorkshire giants later on Monday ahead of sealing a move to the Championship outfit.

Boyd made 33 starts in the Premier League during the most recent campaign as Burnley successfully retained their status in the top flight.
