Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill concedes that striker Jonathan Walters is "very doubtful" for the Euro 2016 Group E game against Italy on Wednesday.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has admitted that Jonathan Walters is "very doubtful" for the Euro 2016 Group E game against Italy on Wednesday.

The Stoke City striker is struggling with an Achilles injury and missed Saturday's 3-0 defeat at the hands of Belgium.

"Walters didn't train today, so he's very doubtful for the game with Italy," O'Neill said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

The Irish need to beat the Azzurri, who are guaranteed top spot in the group, in order to progress into the last 16 of the tournament.
