Real Madrid defender Marcelo remains confident that Los Blancos can recover from their 2-0 first-leg defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has insisted that his team can recover from their 2-0 first-leg defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The German outfit's surprise victory on Wednesday has left ten-time European Cup winners Real Madrid with work to do ahead of the second leg at the Bernabeu next week.

Marcelo has admitted that his side struggled defensively in Germany, but is confident that the Spanish giants will be able to turn the tie around in Madrid.

"We had chances, but we have also done some things wrong, but we have 90 minutes at the Bernabeu to turn this around," AS quotes Marcelo as telling reporters.

"The start of the match wasn't as we wanted, and they have had the ball more. We're going to fight to the end to overcome this result. They've had the counter-attacks, which were very strong, and we've paid for it.

"We can't give up. [The second leg] will be another tough game but we are going to see what we have to do so we don't get caught with the counter-attacks as we did here."

Marcelo has been criticised for his perceived play-acting in the second period of Wednesday's match, with Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking claiming that the Brazilian should have been sent off.
