Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez says that his team are almost guaranteed to be playing top-flight football next season after defeating Leicester City.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has declared that his side have "nearly" secured their Premier League survival following their 2-1 win against Leicester City.

The Magpies fired themselves up to 10th place in the table thanks to goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez at the King Power Stadium, but the Spanish coach urged his players to fight on in their remaining matches.

"It was amazing, the effort of the players, the way they were working, creating chances and the connection with the fans, who were amazing too," BBC Sport quotes Benitez as saying in the wake of his side's win over Leicester.

"Leicester are always dangerous, they have the players who can hurt you, but we had three or four counter-attacks where we could have done better. You cannot complain. We are closer [to safety] but we have to carry on. Nearly, but we have to carry on."

The defeat leaves the Foxes in eighth place in the division.
