Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is believed to be on the radar of former Premier League champions Leicester City.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has reportedly emerged as a target for former Premier League champions Leicester City.

The future of current Foxes manager Claude Puel is thought to be in doubt following reports of dressing room unrest.

Despite guiding Leicester to safety, Saturday's 5-0 thrashing at Crystal Palace was the East Midlanders' third defeat in four games, while their last 11 fixtures have yielded just two wins.

Benitez, meanwhile, has been lauded for his work in keeping Newcastle up, but questions remain over his future amid off-the-pitch uncertainty at St James' Park and a strained working relationship with owner Mike Ashley.

According to the Daily Star, Leicester's owners are seeking a top-level manager to establish the club as a top-six side following two mediocre seasons after their 2015-16 title-winning campaign.

The report claims that Benitez, who has an illustrious CV with the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli and Valencia, is deemed a perfect fit for the King Power Stadium dugout.

Benitez's trophy haul includes the 2004-05 Champions League, two La Liga titles, a UEFA Cup and a Europa League.
