Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez says that the North-East giants must remain upbeat about their start to the season, despite Monday's defeat to Burnley.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has encouraged his players to retain "perspective" after their defeat to Burnley on Monday night.

The 1-0 setback prevented Newcastle from moving into the top six of the Premier League standings, but Benitez has insisted that the Magpies should be delighted with a return of 14 points from 10 games.

The 57-year-old told reporters: "I have told the players something they already know - we have to have perspective. Nobody was expecting we would be in the top 10.

"We are much better than people were expecting. It could be better, but it could be worse. We have to improve the team every week."

Newcastle are next in action when they host Bournemouth at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.
