Former Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat returns to the Netherlands national team as assistant coach.

Former Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has been appointed the assistant coach for the Netherlands national team.

The 68-year-old will team up with Danny Blind, who failed to secure qualification for this summer's European Championships in France.

Advocaat, who has been out of work since leaving Sunderland in October, has been Netherlands boss twice and has also been assistant coach for two spells.

"It is good that we can call on his experience and know-how," said Blind. "I'm looking forward to working with him."

Advocaat will join up with the squad next Sunday at a training camp in Portugal ahead of friendlies against Republic of Ireland, Poland and Austria.
