Preview: Morocco vs. Cameroon - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's African Nations Championship clash between Morocco and Cameroon, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Morocco face the hosts Cameroon in the African Nations Championship semi-finals on Wednesday evening.

The Atlas Lions saw off Zambia 3-1 over the weekend to progress to the final four, whereas Martin Ndtoungou Mpile's side defeated the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Match preview

Vahid Halilhodzic's men advanced to the knockout rounds by topping Group C via two wins and a draw.

Morocco were struggling to put the ball in the back of the net in the early stages of the tournament. They scored just one goal in their opening two fixtures, but those troubles in front of goal have now been extinguished.

The North African outfit have bagged eight goals in their last two outings, including a 5-2 thrashing of Uganda.

Halilhodzic will be hoping his side can replicate that sort of form in midweek and retain the trophy that they won three years ago.

The Indomitable Lions are the only side left in the tournament who did not top their group after they defeated DR Congo in the quarter-finals.

Mpile's men remained unbeaten throughout their Group A fixtures, but after drawing to Mali and Burkina Faso, they had to settle for second place.

That meant the Central African national were pitted against the most successful side in the competition's history in the last eight, although goals from Yannick N'Djeng and Felix Oukine saw them advance to the semi-finals for the first time.

The hosts will be full of confidence and belief that they can secure the trophy on home soil but will have to get past the reigning champions to do so.

Team News

Morocco have a clean bill of health coming into this one with no players injured or suspended, and Halilhodzic will want to select his best XI given what is at stake.

Winger Soufiane Rahimi has bagged three goals in his last two games, making him the joint-top scorer in the tournament, while striker Ayoub El Karbi has two in two. The pair will be crucial to their nation's chances in midweek.

Cameroon also have the luxury of a fully-fit squad to choose from for this semi-final clash.

Centre-back Salomon Charles Banga is the only Indomitable Lions player to have scored more than one goal in the competition and will need his attacking teammates to step up if the hosts are to progress.

Morocco possible starting lineup:
Zniti; El Moussaoui, Boutouil, Bouftini, Baadi; Jabrane, Larbi, El Karti; Rahimi, El Kaabi, Hadraf

Cameroon possible starting lineup:
Kerrido; Hassana, Banga, Etame, Keuni; Oukine, Tchuente, Onana; Ako, Man-Ykre, Tiati

We say: Morocco 3-1 Cameroon

Although Cameroon are the hosts and will be desperate to reach their first final on home soil, we think the current champions will have too much quality for them. Morocco have been in fantastic form of late and should be able to secure the victory to reach back-to-back finals.
