Result: Giovani dos Santos winner helps Mexico down Scotland

Scotland have wrapped up their tour of South America with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.

The deadlock was broken after just 13 minutes when Giovani dos Santos stroked a side-footed finish off the inside of the post and beyond the reach of debutant Jon McLaughlin.

Despite the scoreline, the match was largely one-sided, the hosts enjoying 64% of possession and weighing in with a gargantuan 32 shots, 10 of which were on target.

Mexico continued to dominate after taking the lead, with Miguel Layun curling a shot against the post from the edge of the box in the 27th minute.

McLaughlin then had to be alert to make a save from Hirving Lozano's long-range effort, tipping the effort wide of the post.

Scott Bain came on for McLaughlin at the break and was immediately called into action, keeping out powerful efforts from Lozano and Hector Herrera in quick succession.

Alex McLeish's charges came agonisingly close to grabbing an equaliser moments later, Oliver McBurnie connecting with a Johnny Russell delivery but finding only the woodwork.

From then on normal service resumed, Mexico peppering their opponents' goalmouth in search of a second goal, but the final whistle eventually blew to gift the visitors a respectable-looking scoreline.

MEXICO (4-2-3-1): Ochoa; Alvarez, Ayala, Salcedo (Marquez 45'), Gallardo; Layun, Herrera (Fabian 58'); Vela (Aquino 63'), G. dos Santos (Peralta 57'), Lozano (Corona 73'); Jimenez (J. dos Santos 57')

SCOTLAND (4-2-3-1): McLaughlin (Bain 45'); O'Donnell, Hendry, McKenna, Shinnie; McGeouch, McLean (Caden 55'); Russell, Paterson (Mulgrew 55'), Christie (McGinn 55'); McBurnie (Morgan 80')
