Abou Diaby hit with four-month layoff after suffering injury setback

Marseille midfielder Abou Diaby is ruled out for four months after undergoing ankle surgery.

Abou Diaby has been ruled out for four months after suffering an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old, who made just three Ligue 1 appearances after signing for Marseille in 2015, has undergone surgery.

Diaby has been plagued by injuries since he broke his ankle while playing for Arsenal against Sunderland in 2006.

Following his latest setback, Marseille released a statement, which read: "For several weeks, midfielder Abou Diaby has been suffering with a right ankle problem. Given the persistence of the pain and that it was impossible for him to train, the medical staff decided surgery was necessary."

Diaby has featured just twice so far this season.
