Andy Murray remains on course to end the year as the world's number one player, as he progresses into the semi-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Austria.

Andy Murray has continued his impressive run of form by seeing off John Isner in straight sets at the quarter-final stage of the Erste Bank Open.

The three-time Grand Slam champ triumphed 6-1 6-3 in Austria to remain hot on the heels of Novak Djokovic, whose world number one ranking is now under real threat heading into the closing stages of the season.

Murray eased ahead in the match, holding his serve throughout the opening set and breaking three of Isner's service games to grab a big foothold which he would not relinquish.

Isner again failed to break the Brit in the second set, with the only loss of serve coming in the second game - Murray taking that with his second break point and pushing on to comfortably progress through.

Should Murray, who will now face David Ferrer for a place in the final, win this tournament and the Paris Masters, Djokovic would need to reach the Paris final to retain his position as world number one.
