Ian Poulter has suffered a blow in his bid to move back up the world rankings after missing the cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
After missing the summer through injury, the Englishman had been hoping to use the event to improve on his current position of 138 and an opening round of 70 gave him a chance of reaching the weekend.
However, despite being on the cut line with four holes of Friday's play to go, he dropped three shots to finish well down the field.
The tournament is currently being headed by American Grayson Murray, who opened up a two-shot lead after registering a 65 for his second round.
England's Greg Owen and Ireland's Seamus Power are both two shots adrift in second place.
