Alan Shearer has advised Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer if he wants to win trophies.

Spurs have endured another trophyless campaign following their defeat in the EFL Cup final and a disappointing exit from the Europa League, while their Champions League qualification hopes are also hanging by a thread.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from North London, with Manchester City and Manchester United believed to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Shearer, the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer, has likened the circumstanced involving his move from Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United to those facing Kane, and has urged the 27-year-old to leave Tottenham in his quest to lift silverware.

"When I left Blackburn, I had a season after we won the title and we were nowhere near winning the title. That sort of made my mind up as I then wanted to go on and try and do things, so if Harry wants an excuse, then Tottenham and that team are giving him one," Shearer told BBC Sport.

"They didn't show up in the cup final and they didn't show up [against Leeds United]. If I was in his position, I'd go and look elsewhere to try and win trophies."

Kane is currently the Premier League's top scorer this season with 21 goals, taking his overall tally in the division to 164, which puts him seventh on the all-time list and 96 strikes behind Shearer at the top.
