Manchester City confirm that they have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund to sign Erling Braut Haaland this summer.

Manchester City have confirmed that they have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund to sign Erling Braut Haaland this summer, subject to the club 'finalising terms' with the striker.

The 21-year-old is set to move to the Etihad Stadium on July 1 after the Citizens activate the €60m (£51.4m) release clause in the player's contract.

At around 1:30pm GMT on Tuesday, Man City manager Pep Guardiola was questioned by reporters at a press conference about the potential arrival of Haaland, but insisted that he was "not allowed" to talk until the deal is finalised.

However, just two hours later, City have now released a statement on their official website confirming that an agreement is in place to recruit the Norway international this summer.

A statement read: "Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the club on 1st July 2022.

"The transfer remains subject to the club finalising terms with the player."

On Monday, Haaland is understood to have travelled to the Erasmus Hospital in Brussels, where he underwent and passed a medical before returning to Dortmund.

While terms are yet to be finalised, the striker will allegedly put pen to paper on a five-year-contract until June 2027, and he is set to earn in the region of £375,000 per week, the same as the club's highest earner Kevin De Bruyne.

City's big-money deal sees them finally recruit a successor to club striker Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer before announcing his retirement in December 2021 due to health concerns.

Haaland will now follow in the footstep of his father Alf-Inge Haaland, who played for the Citizens between 2000 and 2003.

The former Molde and Red Bull Salzburg striker has found the net 85 times in 88 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions, including 28 goals in 29 games this season.

Haaland will be able to bid farewell to the famous 'Yellow Wall' at the Westfalenstadion in his final game for BVB when they play host to Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
