Pep Guardiola says that Yaya Toure has helped Manchester City to reach the top of English football after confirming that the Ivorian is to leave the club this summer.

Pep Guardiola has revealed that long-serving midfielder Yaya Toure is to leave Manchester City at the end of the campaign.

The Ivory Coast international has spent the past eight years at the Etihad Stadium, winning eight major honours during that time.

Toure has been restricted to just five starts in all competitions this season, however, and his nine Premier League outings have come from the bench.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Sunday's meeting with Huddersfield Town, Guardiola confirmed recent reports that the 34-year-old is to bow out this summer once his contract expires.

"Yaya came here at the start of the journey," he said. "Where we are now is because of what he has done. He was a key player for Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini."

Guardiola suggested that Toure's final match for City will come against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.
