Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to bring Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu to Anfield this summer, according to a report.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in bringing Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu to Anfield in this summer's transfer window.

Mathieu, 32, joined Barcelona from Valencia in the summer of 2014 and has made 75 appearances for the Spanish champions over the last two seasons.

The France international has also landed seven major trophies since arriving at Camp Nou, including two La Liga titles and the Champions League in 2015.

Samuel Umtiti's arrival from Lyon is expected to harm Mathieu's chances of regular football next term, however, and according to The Sun, Liverpool will offer the Frenchman the opportunity to move to the Premier League this summer.

Mathieu signed a four-year deal at Barcelona upon his arrival and it is understood that the versatile defender currently has a release clause of £42m.
