Miguel Angel Jimenez is a shot further back on two-under despite hitting an eagle at the par-five 14th, while two-time Senior Open champion Bernhard Langer went round in 71.

It was a day to forget for Colin Montgomerie, though, as he shot a 76 to sit four-over-par going into the second day.
