David Wagner talks up the importance of victory for Huddersfield Town in their meeting with fellow strugglers Crystal Palace at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner has suggested that Saturday's home match against Crystal Palace is one of the most important in the club's history.

The Terriers can put seven points between themselves and the bottom three with victory at the John Smith's Stadium should they earn a first win in three top-flight outings.

Wagner has talked up the importance of Huddersfield's home fans in helping to spur their team on this weekend, with Town losing just five of their 15 matches in West Yorkshire since earning a first promotion to the Premier League last summer.

"In front of our crowd in the John Smith's Stadium, if there was one game in the club's history where you have to stand up and support your football club then it's tomorrow," he said at his pre-match press conference. "You have to make our stadium special. This has to be a further step for all of us, on the grass and in the stands.

"It has to be extraordinary, something we have maybe never seen before because this game is a very, very interesting and exciting one. We can make the gap bigger between Crystal Palace and us, this is our aim that we would like to do."

Huddersfield have claimed just seven Premier League points so far this calendar year - only bottom side West Bromwich Albion, with four points, have earned fewer in 2018.
