Preview: Cadiz vs. Granada - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Granada and Cadiz, including team news and predicted lineups.

Newly-promoted Cadiz will be looking to continue their solid start to the 2020-21 La Liga season when they welcome Granada to Estadio Ramon de Carranza on Sunday night.

Alvaro Cervera's side will enter the match off the back of a 1-0 success at Athletic Bilbao, while Granada lost 6-1 at Atletico Madrid in their last league game on September 27.

Cadiz finished second in last season's Segunda Division to secure a return to this level of football for the first time since being relegated at the end of the 2005-06 campaign.

The newly-promoted side opened their season with a 2-0 home defeat to Osasuna but put three points on the board eight days later by beating Huesca 2-0 on the road.

Another defeat followed at home to Sevilla last weekend, but Alvaro's side will enter this match off the back of an excellent 1-0 victory at Athletic on Thursday, which was decided by an own goal from Unai Lopez.

Cadiz have been busy during this summer's transfer window, signing the likes of Alvaro Gimenez, Choco Lozano and Ivan Alejo, while experienced striker Alvaro Negredo has also joined the club on a free transfer.

Granada, meanwhile, have had an incredibly busy start to the season due to their involvement in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League.

Diego Martinez's side finished seventh in Spain's top flight last term, which proved to be their highest placing at this level of football since 1973-74, and they have managed to progress to the group stage of the Europa League.

Indeed, victories over Teuta Durres and Lokomotivi Tbilisi in the qualifying rounds were followed by a 3-1 success at Malmo in the playoffs on Thursday night, ensuring that they would qualify for the main tournament.

Granada have also made a solid start to their league season, picking up six points from an unavailable nine by beating Athletic and Alaves in their opening two matches.

That said, El Grana were hit for six by Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano in their last league encounter, with Luis Suarez starring for Diego Simeone's side during his debut.

Team News

Cadiz will again be without the services of Luismi Quezada due to a long-term knee injury, while Carlos Akapo and Negredo are both suspended following their red cards against Athletic last time out.

Marcos Lopez could come into the side as a replacement for Akapo, but there are not expected to be too many other changes from the side that impressively won at San Mames with nine men.

Indeed, Lozano should again lead the attack with support from Alex, with Isaac Carcelen and Filip Malbasic likely to keep their positions in the wide areas.

As for Granada, Quini and Neyder Lozano remain on the sidelines with muscular injuries, but the visitors did not pick up any fresh concerns in Thursday's win over Malmo.

Kenedy, Jorge Molina and Dimitri Foulquier all came off the bench on Thursday and are pushing for starts, but Martinez is not expected to make too many alterations.

Yangel Herrera has been excellent for El Grana in the early stages of the campaign and should again line up in midfield, with experienced striker Roberto Soldado set to lead the attack.

Cadiz possible starting lineup:
Ledesma; Lopez, Jimenez, Cala, Espino; Carcelen, Fernandez, Jonsson, Malbasic; Alex; Lozano

Granada possible starting lineup:
Silva; Diaz, Duarte, Sanchez, Neva; Puertas, Montoro, Gonalons, Herrera, Machis; Soldado

We say: Cadiz 1-2 Granada

Cadiz have impressed with their performances in the early weeks of the campaign, but Granada have proved themselves to be a very, very good side. Thursday's clash with Malmo would have consumed a lot of energy, but the result was excellent, and we fancy the visitors to pick up another victory in this match.
