Wayne Rooney: 'England must take their chances against Iceland'

Wayne Rooney admits that England "have not got much more time to be wasteful" in front of goal if they are to keep their Euro 2016 hopes alive.

England skipper Wayne Rooney has warned his attacking teammates that they cannot afford to fire another blank in Monday's last-16 tie with Iceland.

The Three Lions were held to a goalless draw by Slovakia in their final Group B outing, while also struggling to convert chances in games against Slovakia and Wales.

Boss Roy Hodgson has admitted that he is concerned by his side's inability to make the most of their openings thus far at the European Championship finals - a view Rooney echoes on the eve of the Nice showdown.

"I think sometimes that's football, it just happens," he told reporters. "I think on the other side of the coin, you can be positive. We've dominated the three games we've played, we haven't always done that.

"We know if we keep getting chances, we'll score goals. I'm sure on Monday we'll get those chances and we'll need to take them. We're in the knockout stages of the tournament and we haven't got much more time to be wasteful."

England are expected to start with three players in attack at the Allianz Riviera, with Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana featuring either side of Harry Kane.
