How Chelsea could line up against Crystal Palace

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for Saturday's Premier League London derby with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime looking for their first Premier League home win of the season.

The Blues were beaten by champions Liverpool in their top-flight opener on home turf, and have since drawn at West Bromwich Albion and been knocked out of the EFL Cup by Tottenham Hotspur.

The West Brom match saw them fall 3-0 down inside 27 minutes before ultimately rescuing a point, and Frank Lampard will be demanding an improvement from his side this weekend as they take on a Palace side that sits above them in the table.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for the London derby.

Saturday is likely to see new arrival Edouard Mendy make his Premier League debut for Chelsea after immediately taking the gloves for Tuesday's penalty shootout defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The goalkeeper impressed despite ultimately ending up on the losing side, making 10 saves to underline exactly why the Blues brought him in amid serious questions over Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Ben Chilwell is also set to make his first Premier League appearance for his new club, having featured twice in the EFL Cup so far.

Marcos Alonso's error-strewn performance against West Brom last weekend saw him hooked at half time and reportedly engage in a furious row with Lampard, and it may be that the Spaniard has played his final game for the club.

Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have also been linked with moves away - albeit only on loan - and so are unlikely to be involved this weekend.

In fairness to Alonso, Lampard may have changed his entire XI at half time of that West Brom game if he was allowed and he must decide whether to keep faith with the bulk of his back four, including Thiago Silva following his mistake on his debut.

Lampard is sure to view that as a freak occurrence for a player of such experience, though, and with Cesar Azpilicueta now seemingly firmly behind Reece James in the pecking order it could only be the goalkeeper and left-back changed from the Baggies blitz.

Further forward, Timo Werner is expected to overcome the cramp which prevented him from taking a penalty in Tuesday's shootout, having opened his account for Chelsea earlier in that game.

Kai Havertz, N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham will all be hopeful of returning to the starting lineup too, the latter two after scoring in the comeback last weekend.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was also on the scoresheet at The Hawthorns, but he may have to make do with a place on the bench again.

Competition for those wide places could increase too with Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic both nearing returns. Pulisic will be included in the squad this weekend and Ziyech is expected to be available again after the international break.
